Advanced Open Water Diver

The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver helps you gain more experience, dive with greater confidence, and discover new types of diving. The ideal next step after your Open Water certification.

Immediately after obtaining your Open Water certification, you can progress to the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver. This course is designed for divers who want to gain more experience, deepen their skills, and feel even more comfortable underwater.

During the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will gain experience in various types of dives, under the guidance of our instructors. You will make five guided dives from the beach at Porto Mari and/or at other locations around Curaçao. The course focuses on practical experience: learning by doing, in dive environments that interest you.

The following two adventure dives form the core of the course:

• Deep Diving – deep diving up to a maximum of 30 meters

• Underwater Navigation – navigation underwater

In addition, depending on your interests, the conditions, and SSI guidelines, you choose three extra adventure dives from a selection, including for example:

• Enriched Air Nitrox

• Computer Diving

• Night & Limited Visibility

• Perfect Buoyancy

• Photo & Video

• Search & Recovery

• Waves, Tides & Currents

• Wreck Diving (if possible due to cruise ships)

• Boat Diving (with supplement)

• Marine Ecology (if available)

• Sidemount Diving (on request)

The completely renewed SSI e-learning program also familiarizes you with different types of diving and conditions, including types of dives that may not always be possible locally. This gives you a broader view of what is possible worldwide in diving.

All adventure dives can easily be upgraded to full SSI specialties by adding one or two extra dives. At the end of the course, you will not only have gained wonderful new diving experiences, but you will also be demonstrably a more experienced and confident diver.

And the adventure doesn’t have to stop there. We are happy to help you continue with our specialty courses, such as Diver Stress & Rescue or one of the ecology specialties, to further expand your knowledge and skills.
