Curaçao is one of the best places in the world for shore snorkeling. The reef starts close to the beach in many places, allowing you to snorkel directly above colorful coral gardens and tropical fish without needing a boat.

During this trip, we drive along the coast of West Curaçao, where the water is often the calmest and clearest. Here you'll find several beaches where you can enter the water directly from the shore and explore the reef at your own pace.

Each snorkeling spot has its own character: from shallow coral gardens to sandy areas where turtles and rays are often seen.

What to expect

The snorkeling trip starts with a short briefing and fitting of the snorkeling equipment.

Afterwards, we head to one or more beaches along the coast of West Curaçao, where we enter the water directly from the beach to snorkel.

At each location, you'll receive a brief explanation about the spot and the marine life commonly seen there. During snorkeling, the guide stays nearby to point out animals and answer questions.

Between snorkeling stops, there is time to relax on the beach and enjoy the view of the Caribbean Sea.

Possible snorkeling spots

Depending on the conditions, we visit one or more snorkeling spots, for example:

• Playa Daaibooi and Cas Abao
• Playa Largu, Playa Shon Mosa, Playa Manzaliña and/or Playa Chiki near San Juan

• Playa Lagun and Playa Jeremi

• Playa Forti, Playa Piskadó (famous for the turtles) and/or Playa Kalki

Each spot offers a different perspective on Curaçao's coral reef and marine life.

What you can see

The marine life around Curaçao is particularly diverse. During a snorkeling trip, you often see:

• tropical reef fish

• parrotfish and surgeonfish

• barracudas

• sea urchins and starfish

• turtles

• sometimes stingrays

Because the reef often starts close to the shore, you can see much of this marine life while calmly swimming above the reef.
