This dive trip combines two unique and completely different dive sites on the south coast of Curaçao — a favorite among local divemasters and instructors, and one of the island’s most underrated reefs. Will you join us for a dive?
The first dive takes place at Double Reef, close to the city and the megapier. The entry point is located behind the Parke pa Lucha di Libertat, near the statue of Tula. As the name suggests, this dive site consists of a double reef, similar to Porto Mari.
After a short swim out, we descend and swim over the sandy plain between the two reefs towards the outer reef. Here, you have a good chance of spotting turtles in their natural environment. If the current is favorable, we’ll make it a beautiful drift dive: along a broken pier, past a steep wall, and over stunning, shallow coral gardens towards our next dive location.
For the second dive, we move to a spot behind the Curaçao water treatment plant. Here you’ll find a small fishermen’s lane with wooden houses that have been transformed into atmospheric restaurants—but above all, you’ll discover an exceptionally beautiful and surprising reef.
Underwater, you’ll find large pillar corals, extensive soft corals, and the largest barrel sponges of Curaçao. The reef slopes down in steps and is full of overhangs and openings where fish and other marine life hide. Just like at Double Reef, barracudas and tarpons are regularly spotted here. Thanks to the enormous diversity underwater and the idyllic surroundings above water, many consider this spot to be one of the most underrated dive sites on Curaçao.
The combination of these two dives—dynamic and grand at Double Reef, rich and atmospheric at the second location—makes for a varied and impressive dive day that will surprise both experienced and less experienced divers.
For this trip, you need at least an Open Water certification.
If you don’t have one yet, no problem—you can start with an introductory dive (2 hours) or go straight for the SSI Open Water course (3 days).
