As soon as the sun sets, the underwater world changes completely. Night diving and diving in limited visibility require different skills than daytime diving — and these are exactly what you will learn during the SSI Night Diving & Limited Visibility Specialty. This course is the ideal way to boost your confidence and learn to dive safely in low light or limited visibility conditions.

Through a combination of online theory and open water dives, you will learn how to properly prepare for and conduct your dives. You will practice entering and exiting the water safely, using special equipment such as dive lights and backup lights, and clear communication with your buddy in the dark or in limited visibility.

Additionally, you will learn how to maintain your orientation, stay calm, and work effectively with your buddy — essential skills that also improve your overall dive safety and proficiency. Night diving also reveals a completely different side of the reef: nocturnal animals, hunting behavior, and a unique atmosphere you won’t experience during the day.

Upon completion, you will receive the SSI Night Diving & Limited Visibility Specialty certification, which counts towards the free recognition ratings Specialty Diver, Advanced Specialty Diver, and Master Diver. With this specialty, you’ll be ready to confidently dive into the dark and further deepen your diving experience.
