Equipment Techniques

Truly understand your dive equipment with the SSI Equipment Techniques Specialty.
More knowledge means more safety, comfort, and confidence underwater.

Choosing and purchasing your own dive equipment is one of the most important investments you will make as a diver — and at the same time, a potential pitfall if you don’t know exactly what to look for. With the SSI Equipment Techniques Specialty, you will learn how to choose the right equipment for your diving style and how to use it optimally and responsibly.

During this theoretical (dry) course, you will gain insight into the functioning of essential dive equipment such as regulators, BCDs, tanks, valves, and accessories. You will learn what to look for when purchasing equipment, how to assess quality and suitability, and how to avoid investing in gear that doesn’t suit you.

Additionally, you will learn all about maintenance, storage, and basic and preventive care of your equipment. By understanding how your gear works and how to take proper care of it, you ensure maximum performance, reliability, and a longer lifespan for your complete Total Diving System — every dive, every time.

This specialty is ideal for divers who want to become more self-reliant, handle their equipment more consciously, and enter the water with greater confidence. The knowledge you gain also provides a strong foundation for further growth towards professional or technical training.

Upon completion, you will receive the SSI Equipment Techniques Specialty certification, which counts towards the free recognition ratings Specialty Diver, Advanced Specialty Diver, and Master Diver. A valuable investment in your safety, comfort, and diving enjoyment — without getting wet.
