Decompression Diving

Push your diving limits and go beyond the no-decompression limits in a controlled way with the SSI Decompression Diving Specialty. An essential step towards more freedom, depth, and technical dives.

Do you want to dive deeper and longer without being limited by traditional no-decompression limits? With the SSI Decompression Diving Specialty, you will learn how to make safe and controlled decompression dives using recreational equipment.

During this specialty, you will learn in four open water dives how to plan and execute dives beyond the no-decompression limits, to a maximum depth of 40 meters, with limited decompression. You will dive with your regular recreational configuration, supplemented with one decompression cylinder, and learn how to use it efficiently and safely.

An important part of this course is the effective use of your dive computer. You will learn to work with features such as gas switches, gas integration, time-to-reserve, and time-to-surface. By applying these features correctly, dive planning becomes more intuitive and you will learn to make safe decompression dives without hours of manual calculations.

The SSI Decompression Diving Specialty opens the door to deeper dive sites, larger wrecks, and more complex dive profiles, while staying within a controlled and structured framework. The skills you learn form an important bridge between recreational and technical diving.

Upon completion, you will receive the SSI Decompression Diving Specialty certification, which counts towards the free recognition ratings Specialty Diver, Advanced Specialty Diver, and Master Diver. In addition, this specialty is a logical and valuable first step towards technical diving, should you wish to further develop in that direction.
