The ocean is filled with spectacular dive sites — but many of the very best are only accessible by boat. With the SSI Boat Diving Specialty, you open the door to these unique locations and learn to dive safely, comfortably, and confidently from various types of boats.

As a boat diver, you explore offshore dive sites where you’ll encounter larger schools of fish and impressive sea creatures that you rarely see close to shore. You’ll learn how to plan and conduct dives from boats, how to enter and exit the water, and how to handle procedures specific to boat diving.

This specialty also prepares you for liveaboard diving anywhere in the world: multiple dives per day, far from the crowds, while the boat quietly sails on and the sun sets on the horizon. Thanks to the combination of online theory and open water training, you’ll learn everything you need to dive safely and comfortably from both small vessels and larger liveaboards.

Upon completion, you’ll receive the SSI Boat Diving Specialty certification, which counts towards the free recognition ratings Specialty Diver, Advanced Specialty Diver, and Master Diver. With this specialty, you literally broaden your horizons and get even more adventure out of your dive trips.
