Hi, I'm Sam!

I'm from Den Bosch, the Netherlands, and I am trained as a marine biologist. For me, diving is not just work, but also something I love to do in my free time—simply because I love being underwater. The combination of nature, adventure, and discovery continues to fascinate me time and again.

From March to December 2025, I worked at Porto Mari Dive Center, where I first joined as an Assistant Instructor candidate during an AI internship. During that period, I further developed myself as a diver and instructor and gained a lot of experience teaching and guiding underwater.

As a marine biologist, I love to dive with an investigative perspective. I can tell you all about what happens underwater, from coral spawning and coral restoration to the behavior of trumpetfish, the morphological diversity of cuttlefish, and the remarkable world of echinoderms and other marine invertebrates. During a dive, I enjoy sharing that knowledge and showing you the reef from a different perspective.

In addition to working in the diving world, I also have clear scientific ambitions. I am actively looking for a place to pursue a PhD in marine biology and to further immerse myself in research on underwater life. It would be absolutely amazing if I could continue to combine that academic path with diving and fieldwork on tropical reefs.

For me, it’s precisely that deeper understanding that makes diving extra special: not just seeing what lives there, but also understanding what happens and why.
