For over 50 years, Scuba Schools International (SSI) has provided high-quality training programs for recreational diving, Extended Range, freediving, and professional tracks — from your first breath underwater to Instructor Trainer.
With course materials in more than 40 languages and over 4,000 Training Centers in more than 150 countries, SSI has grown into one of the largest and most recognized diving organizations in the world. Globally, more than 100,000 professionals are active within the SSI system.
At Porto Mari Dive Center, we consciously work with SSI. Not because it is "the biggest," but because its content aligns with how we dive, teach, and approach quality: structured, skills-focused, and personal.
With the SSI app, you always have access to your theory, digital certifications, and logbook. You start at home with e-learning and learn at your own pace. Your materials remain available even after certification and are updated as the program evolves.
SSI is not about getting a card as quickly as possible, but about real skill. Buoyancy, gas management, situational awareness, and comfort underwater are central.
SSI is logically structured. As you take specialties and gain experience, you automatically progress to higher recognition levels such as Specialty Diver, Advanced Specialty Diver, and Master Diver. The experience you build up truly counts.
An SSI certification is international and valid for life. Whether you dive in the Caribbean, Asia, or Europe — your certification is accepted everywhere.
SSI offers a clear route from beginner to professional:
At Porto Mari Dive Center, we guide you through this entire process — including professional training.
SSI works modularly: experience is rewarded and higher recognitions are automatically granted as soon as you meet the requirements.
Porto Mari Dive Center is an SSI Diamond Center — the highest recognition within the SSI system.
This means:
Structural quality control
Continuous training of instructors
Active training of professionals
High safety and service standards
For you, this means you will be trained in a center that demonstrably invests in quality and professionalism.
The diving industry has several globally recognized training organizations. PADI is or was historically the largest player. SSI is also among the largest organizations and has grown significantly internationally in recent years.
Especially among non-divers, PADI still has the greatest name recognition. In practice, both systems are globally recognized and safe. With a certification from either, you can dive anywhere in the world. The difference is not in validity, but in structure, learning environment, and organizational culture.
We have also worked with PADI in the past and know both systems from the inside. Our choice to work exclusively with SSI is not a value judgment about one system or the other, but a conscious choice for a training structure that better fits our way of working.
SSI uses a fully integrated digital system where theory, certifications, and logbook come together. The materials remain available for life and are centrally managed within the SSI app.
Within SSI, accumulated experience and completed specialties are rewarded through a modular recognition system. Higher recognitions are automatically granted as soon as you meet the requirements.
PADI has historically been strongly brand-driven and has the greatest name recognition among non-divers. SSI is originally center- and instructor-focused: the quality of the training center and the instructor is central. That matches our way of working: personal, small-scale, and focused on true mastery of skills.
The name Scuba Schools International emphasizes that education is central.
Not the logo on the certification, but the quality of the training on site is key. Developing skills takes time and attention. A good system should support that space.
We see diving as a learning process — not as a checklist.
SSI recognizes certifications from other globally recognized organizations. If you have a PADI, NAUI, or CMAS certification, you can enter the SSI system at the appropriate level.
So you do not have to start over. Your experience counts.
Diving is not a brand competition, but an international community where safety and skill are central.
A good system is important — but the quality of your training is ultimately determined by the people who guide you.
