The instructor exam

The SSI Instructor Evaluation (IE) is the final step towards becoming a diving instructor. During these exam days, you will demonstrate that you are ready to teach independently, with attention to safety, quality, and personal guidance.

The SSI Instructor Evaluation is the official exam during which you are assessed on everything you have learned during your instructor training. In a professional yet supportive atmosphere, you demonstrate that you can explain theory, clearly demonstrate skills, and guide students safely and in a structured manner.

The exam is conducted by an SSI certifier who is specially flown in for this purpose, and consists of various components, including theory tests, presentations, and practical assessments in the water. The focus is not only on knowledge and technique, but also on communication, overview, and creating a positive learning environment for future divers.

We prepare you for this step by step during your Instructor Training Course (ITC), so that you start the exam well-prepared and with confidence. Our goal is not only for you to pass, but also for you to truly feel ready to start working as an instructor.

After successfully completing the Instructor Evaluation, you are officially an SSI Open Water Instructor. This allows you to teach diving courses worldwide and marks the beginning of a new chapter in your diving career—whether that is part-time, seasonal work, or a full step towards a life in the diving world.
