We don’t need to reinvent everything. For weight, we simply use lead. Because it does exactly what it’s supposed to do — give you perfect trim underwater.

Buoyancy & Weights

Archimedes’ principle tells us that an object submerged in water experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the water it displaces.

For divers, that simply means your buoyancy depends on how much water you displace.

That’s why lead works so well. With a high density (± 11.3 g/cm³), it adds significant weight with very little volume.
From a purely physics standpoint, gold would be even more efficient (± 19.3 g/cm³). Less volume for the same weight means even finer buoyancy control.

Still, we rarely see divers entering the water wearing a gold weight belt.
Apparently, budget plays a role in trim as well.

We offer 2, 3, 4, and 5 lb weight blocks.
On Curaçao, diver weights are measured in pounds rather than kilograms. For reference: 1 kilogram is approximately 2.2 pounds.

During our boat trips with Dive In, we kindly ask guests not to bring hard lead blocks onboard. Please use the available soft weight pouches instead — it’s better for the boat and for your toes.

All of our BCDs are equipped with integrated weight systems. For those who prefer a more traditional setup, we also have classic weight belts available.

Tip: Don’t carry more lead (or gold) than necessary. It’s usually less than you think.
