Magic Mike | PADI Instructor

Magic Mike worked as a diving instructor at Porto Mari from June 2023 to May 2024. This world traveler from Oklahoma was a recognizable figure with his pink gear and his inseparable glasses — and he has now found his next adventure in Thailand.

Hey, I'm Mike — but most people know me as Magic Mike.

I'm from Oklahoma in the United States, but I've never really felt tied down to one place. Traveling is in my blood. I even did my Instructor Training Course twice — first in Curaçao and then again in Mexico — before I started working as a dive instructor at Porto Mari in June 2023. I worked there until May 2024 and had an amazing time, both above and below the water.

I'm a true world traveler, maybe a bit of a bohemian. Always on the move, always curious about new places and people. My style is pretty direct and spontaneous, sometimes a bit clumsy, but always with good intentions and a big dose of enthusiasm for diving.

Underwater, I was easy to recognize. My favorite color is without a doubt pink — so my fins and DSMB were in that color too. And my vision? That worked according to a simple system: on land, I always wore glasses with a wide frame, and as soon as they came off, the dive mask went on. Mask off? Glasses back on. There was about zero seconds in between... "Superleuk" (my favorite word in Dutch), right?

During my time at Porto Mari, I thoroughly enjoyed guiding and teaching divers, and tried to share my passion for diving with as many people as possible. It was a period full of beautiful dives, special encounters, and lots of laughter.

By now, I've moved on again and am living in Thailand, where my next adventure is taking place. But my time on Curaçao and at Porto Mari remains a memory I will always carry with me.
