Margriet & Sebastiaan | SSI Divemaster trainees
Sebastiaan and Margriet discovered their passion for diving during their first holiday in Curaçao. By now, they have made around 180 dives all over the world and are happy to share their enthusiasm with others, both from the shore and during boat dives.

We are Sebastiaan and Margriet, from the Netherlands. During our first holiday together in Curaçao, we experienced the underwater world for the first time with an introductory dive. Once back in the Netherlands, we couldn't shake the feeling and decided to take our Open Water course. That was in 2013. When we returned to Curaçao for another holiday, we immediately continued with our Advanced certification.
Since then, we have made many beautiful dives in places such as Bali, Bonaire, South Africa, the Seychelles, Mafia Island, and Zanzibar. We are true lovers of warm, clear water, so you won't often see us diving in the Netherlands... brr! 🥶 By now, we've logged about 180 dives. By the way, we did most of these dives using our full-face masks – for us, it's the perfect way to dive!
Still, Curaçao remains a special place for us. The relaxed island vibe, the stunning underwater world, and the friendly people – and of course the diving community – keep us coming back. The island even played a leading role in some special moments in our lives. For example, in 2023, Sebastiaan proposed to Margriet underwater at Playa Kalki. A year later, on August 13, 2024, we got married exactly on the day we had been together for twenty years. And during our honeymoon in Australia, we were finally able to tick off a long-cherished dream: diving at the Great Barrier Reef.
Every time we left Curaçao, we had the same feeling: we actually didn't want to go home yet. During our last trip in 2025, we talked about this with Anke and Kasper. Soon, the idea arose to go for Divemaster and live in Curaçao for a longer period. An exciting step, but above all an adventure we are really looking forward to. We hope to further develop our own diving skills, share our passion for the underwater world with others, and of course, inspire as many people as possible to discover the beautiful dive sites of Curaçao – with Porto Mari as our absolute favorite.
